Mecelec Design introduced this laser gauging machine into an existing fully automated assembly line in a factory that produces automotive alternators.
Alternator stator shafts are automatically conveyed through the process by a palletised conveyor system. Once it reaches the gauging machine it is accurately located and lifted into the laser gauge.
The bearing diameter of the shaft is zeroed and accurately measured across two diagonals.
The whole process is carried out in less than five seconds.
All the machine interfaces with the component are automatic—clamping, barcode reading, electrical connection and component rotation.
