Mecelec Design has recently completed the refurbishment of four annealing ovens for the heat treatment of small arms ammunition brass cases.
The ovens had been in continuous service for over 30 years, producing a range of small arms ammunition calibres.
Each oven was removed from production with minimum disruption and fully refurbished at our works in six weeks!
Installation was carried out without affecting factory productivity, and once commissioned the next oven was released for refurbishment.
Refurbishment consisted of a completely new, sophisticated temperature control system that maintained a temperature within 2° of set point across the whole 5m oven length.
The feed conveyor was completely overhauled with a new variable speed drive system. Circulation fans and cooling fans were replaced with inverter-controlled units.
A new base frame fabrication was produced to enable the oven to interface with automatic feed equipment.
The oven was completely refinished prior to installation.
