Mecelec Design has designed and built a machine that carries out a shock and a functional electrical test on a safety-critical component in an automotive electric power steering unit.
The assembly under test is vibrated at a high frequency prior to being automatically rotated while electrical performance is monitored.
A full functional test is carried out by a bespoke PC-based program and all resulting data is transferred to the factory network via Ethernet and linked to the unique barcode allocated to the component.
All the machine interfaces with the component are automatic—clamping, barcode reading, electrical connection and component rotation.
